Slam City Skates

Since first opening its doors to the London skate community in 1986, Slam City Skates has become an integral part of British skateboarding. Rising out of the punk rock community at Portobello Road’s Rough Trade record shop, it wasn’t long before it moved to a new location in Covent Garden, taking Rough Trade with it.

It has a great team of riders featuring the likes of Danny Brady, Vaughan Baker, Karim Bakhtoui, Casper Brooker, Charlie Young, Pontus Alv, Steph Morgan and Lucien Clarke. Many of the team featured in the Henry Edwards-Wood-directed City of Rats, filmed predominantly on the grimy streets of the capital and released to coincide with the company’s 25th anniversary.

Slam City Skates’ Business Manager is Chris Pulman, who has been involved in various guises (including pro skater) at companies including Palace, Heroin and Black Box, and who is also the man behind Descent Skateboards. Along with Landscape boss Snowy, Pulman was one of the driving forces behind the opening of Slam City Skates’ second store in east London in March 2013.

Slam City Skates offer an extensive range of products from all the leading brands, and designed Vans Syndicate’s 23rd release in 2013. The shop has also been involved with Nike SB since the American company’s first drop of shoes way back in 2002 – the Dunk was given the Slam City Skates treatment in 2005, and the resultant ‘Slam Dunk’, featuring a map of Southbank on the insole drawn by Pulman, sold out instantly.
