Boom Skatepark Winter 2017 Jam
Whilst the vast majority of you were probably tucked up in front of the TV watching River Monsters or some other festive treat, or, if you have more sense (and more friends), down the pub – we braved the grim late December weather to get involved in one of the last big sessions of the year for the Boom Skatepark Winter 2017 Jam.
Boom Skatepark is a skater-owned and operated indoor skatepark in Upton, West Yorkshire (between Leeds and Doncaster roughly) with a unique lay out and a tradition of holding end-of-the-year events in conjunction with local SOS skatestore Division 24 of Wakefield.
In time-honoured tradition, we loaded the car up with eager reprobates, stopped off at the Offy for adult-orientated energy drinks and then headed down to Boom in anticipation of a mellow little session to see off 2017.
What greeted us on arrival however, was something way more hectic altogether with crews from Grantham, Sheffield, Leeds and the surrounding cities all turning up en masse to tear the back end out of Boom’s three rooms, drink beer, be merry and (in Brendan Watson‘s case at least), defy the laws of gravity.
By 10pm the atmosphere had nearly taken the roof off and the session moved to Boom’s unique 8 foot midi ramp, which is terrifying to mere mortals such as myself but acts as little more than a 3 foot mini to the lunatics that you’re about to see tearing it apart. Ben Broyd…if you don’t already know how good this guy is then believe me, you will do soon, with a Death Skateboards full part due to drop in Spring of this year and a few other projects on the boil.
Anyhow – enough blabbering – watch the edit – get hyped, then go pay the Boom Skatepark Facebook a visit and plan a little mission there yourselves!
