We’ve made no secret of our deep respect for the whole Get Lesta enterprise over the years. What began as a bunch of mates based in Leicester filming skate videos for fun, has rapidly turned into a globally recognised media empire, a soft goods brand and, well, basically the epitome of UK skateboarding really.

If however you frequent any of the message boards of the skateboarding universe then you will also know that the output of Get Lesta divides opinion, to put it mildly.

For some people, (and I include myself in this group), Callun Loomes and his ever expanding troupe of cast members represent everything that is truly inspirational about skateboarding in the UK. The Get Lesta videos are expensive to make, involve paying for hundreds of miles of travel up and down the motorways of the country and take up a massive amount of the free time of all those who are involved – whilst rarely making any money beyond breaking even on the cost of physically producing the DVDs.

In an era where Instagram is king and the vast majority of skate content is consumed online, the Get Lesta crew also insist on making DVDs and hosting real-life premieres. For me, that shows a remarkable dedication to the art of skate video-making and maintains a hold on an aspect of skateboarding culture that is rapidly disappearing.

The fact that the likes of Thrasher are also happy to jump on each of Get Lesta’s video releases and put them in front of millions of skater’s eyes across the globe is reassuring too, in that it proves that our love of this lot’s output is motivated by being able to see the wheat from the chaff, and not just because they are our friends.

With that said – there are just as many vocal detractors of Callun Loomes and of Get Lesta as there are supporters but, honestly, looked at through the lens of people who are supposed to enjoy skateboarding, and even more so, from the perspective of a culture that professes to champion the DIY ethic at the root of all skater-owned enterprises – it’s difficult to see how anyone wouldn’t be excited and stoked on what they produce. But, as they say, you can’t please everyone.

Anyhow, Callun has decided to release Get Lesta 2017 Last Orders skate video online in FULL simply because he’s sold enough DVDs now to cover the cost of making it and because he’s a good lad, so here it is as this week’s Sidewalk Sunday Service.
Last Orders is the fifth full-length video from Get Lesta taking one year to make, (unlike the earlier releases which took two years each) and, as always, it’s crammed full of banging skateboarding.

I know he’ll be cringing reading this as he doesn’t do this shit to hype himself up but, raise a glass to the dude who works a full-time job and still manages to out-produce most skate companies, represent female skateboarding harder than anyone else in the country, do collabs with one of the biggest skateboard brands on the planet via the Get Primitive release, and still has the balls to film his broken mates first, before driving them to hospital.
Here’s to the next Get Lesta video. Big up everyone.
