Hell Yeah Son in Europe Part 9: Vino Blanco

A reminder of why the Basque Country should be on your skate trip bucket list

Hell Yeah Son in Europe Part 9: Vino Blanco sees Alex Diss and his ever evolving crew of people inclined to jump in the van heading out to the Basque Country, making the most of the various concrete wonderlands that have earned it the epithet ‘the Oregon of the Mediterranean’ – or have in my head at least, because I’ve just made that up. But it undoubtedly fits, with La Kantera just the gateway drug guiding you into a life of constantly chasing the next concrete hit across the entire region. Addiction is clearly a bastard and took over Alex’s whole summer, which you can see in the other eight parts of the Hell Yeah Son Euro odyssey to currently reside on the web via the relevant text below the video.

The park’s shown here are just the tip of the Basque concrete iceberg and if the area isn’t on your skate trip bucket list then you probably need to sit down and do some serious life reevaluation – it’s in the top five of places I’ve visited to skate, and that’s despite the fact it pissed it down for three out of four days (you can see the fruits of that trip, with photography by Paul Graham, here). La Kantera is as good as it looks if not better, Sondika (the three pocket pool coping bowl with steps) is incredible and, if transition skating isn’t your cup of concrete, there’s plenty of street options to boot.
