Following on from Jordan Thackeray’s section last month, here’s Owen ‘Sox’ Watkins‘ opening part from ‘Corner Store’. Sox was one of the first people I pointed a camera at for this video but, being more elusive than a ninja harvesting rocking horse shit, he was also one of the last people to finish a part before I started editing. This extended filming process included various techniques of communication including Instagram messages from various friends and acquaintances carrying second hand plans, carrier pigeon, smoke signals and me turning up at the Copenhagen Open assuming I’d find him (I did, within about twelve hours). Luckily, during those brief meet ups he was pretty much guaranteed to find an unusual line at any spot in his path, film about 15 tricks on a semi-unskateable three foot high vertical brick quarterpipe and generally lay down gonzo skateboarding at its purest wherever we happened to be. He also filmed the line on Streatham High Road in some oversized loafers, streaked with bird shit and found abandoned in a toilet in Tesco, because the skate shoes he had were rubbing too much – that’s why Sox is the best.
This one also features fellow Carve Wicked enthusiasts Tom Bailey, Welsh Allan, Sam Pulley and Colin Adam to try and bring in a wider CRV experience, hopefully that comes across in the mise-en-scene of the whole part.
There are still copies of the full video featuring Stevie Thompson, Sam Roberts, Jordan Thackeray, Filippo Baronello, Evan Binge, Taylor Jones and many more alongside Sox, which you can message [email protected] if you’re one of those deviant types who gets some kind of perverse thrill from owning physical copies of things rather than just watching them on the internet (PS, I’m not putting much more of the video on the internet so you wouldn’t get to do that anyway).
