Following on from Dane ‘Morph’ Crook‘s recent Blueprint Skateboards focused ‘Skate Crates‘ episodes, for Christmas Eve’s ‘Sunday Service’ we thought we’d keep things ‘Print related by delving into Mark Baines‘ maiden voyage into the world of independent skateboard video making, 2002’s VHS release ‘Driving South’.
The video was obviously centred around the then scene in Mark’s native Sheffield, though heads from literally all over the globe got a look in over the course of the half hour production. In and amongst footage from the likes of Joel Curtis, Louis Slater, Mark himself and Paul Shier, you could find cameos from Erik Ellington, Dustin Dollin, James Edson, Rob Ransford, Scott Palmer, Colin Kennedy and Toby Shuall, to name but a few. As you’d expect in a video coming from Mark, the music throughout was spot on, and the use of the band South on Nick Jensen and Vaughan Baker‘s part was no exception. Made up of footage from in and around London at the turn of the century, Nick and Vaughan’s section – which is waiting for you below – also featured cameos from Kenny Reed, Danny Calow, Jake Sawyer and various others.
Waste no time in hitting that play button and immersing yourself in a whole load of lesser seen 2002 radness now!
