Steve ‘Cholo’ Ellis – teaching kids to skate in the Philippines

Teaching kids to skate in the Philippines

Philippines based web series ‘Tronche De Vie’ presents a short documentary on 66 year old skater Steve ‘Cholo’ Ellis, a friend of Jay Adams who lives in the Philippines and teaches kids to skate. Growing up inĀ the United States and witnessing the birth of pool skating, Steve ended up moving to Hawaii andĀ helping to build the legendary Cholo Bowl before ending up in the Philippines, building ramps and helping to teach kids to skate.

This documentary covers Steve’s upbringing, his entrepreneurial enterprises throughout the years, hanging out with Jay, why he moved to the Philippines, feeding street kids there, why he feels like skateboarding is good for kids and plenty more. Steve has clearly found the fountain of life via skateboarding (as if you didn’t know that already) and this should bring some joy into the most jaded of online skate video critic, so press play and enjoy…

“”Steve Cholo Ellis, aka Woody Wood Flow, underground skateboarder. I have been around from the beginning, and this is what i do. I’ve been skateboarding for 55 years, i am 66 years old, this is my little place in La Union. Where all my friends come to visit me on my birthday and have a good sess’.” Born and raise in Long Beach, Steve Cholo Ellis is a skateboarder since day one. Pioneer of the skateboard foundations, he discovered skateboard and surf in the 60’s and set up the foundations of skateboarding by riding empty pools. He moved to North Shore in Hawaii were he had a restaurant and built the most famous skateboard bowl in the world. Jay Adams, Rune Glifberg, Bob Burnquist, Omar Hassan, Danny Way, Jimmy Marcus…they all rode Steve Cholo’s Bowl in Hawaii. Maybe the oldest skateboarder in the world, Steve Cholo Ellis now lives in the Philippines and keeps on teaching kids the flow!”
