Rob Smith vs the Hurworth quarter.

Whilst on the annual War of the Thistles weekender/road trip back in May 2012, Rob Smith decided to mention that if we could hit the infamous Hurworth quarter on the way back south, he might be up for trying to noseblunt pull in off the back wall. Now, as you’re probably aware, Rob knows his way around a solid noseblunt pull in or two, but even by his madman standards, this seemed like a pretty heavy claim.

The wall is about ten foot tall (or thereabouts), the part of quarter Rob was hoping to land in is only four foot at the most, and there was also a few feet gap between the wall and the quarter to take into consideration. It’s hardly surprising that Jimmy Boyes is the only other person to step to it over the years.

Undershoot it and you’re f*cked; overshoot it and you’re f*cked. If anyone could ride away from the noseblunt pull in, Rob is undoubtedly the man for the job.

Anyway, we dropped Benson off in Livi on the final morning then embarked on what ended up being a five/six hour drive to Darlington to meet up with the Legacy crew before making our way over to Hurworth. After sitting in the van for close to an entire day and diverting the homeward bound crew literally cross country, I wasn’t entirely sure that Rob was really up for the session, but after some encouragement from the assembled crowd and a spot of heckling from a neighboring disgruntled allotment enthusiast, Rob got things going. What ensued was one of the straight up gnarliest attempts at something I’ve ever witnessed; the same can probably be said for everybody else at the spot that evening.

Watch the raw footage from the session below now – last I heard from Rob on the matter this was still ‘to be continued’, so you never know. Someone get the Dogger back up to the north east to finish this bastard off!
