Originally from Bath, England, Ben Nordberg’s skills on a skateboard brought him to California where he soon earned a spot on the elite Flip team. His impressive first-ever, full-length video part for the company, filmed by Russell Houghton, Ewan Bowman, Greg Hunt and Greg Poisionner, was released in 2012.
He is also currently sponsored by Vans, Mob Grip, Spitfire Wheels, Thunder Trucks and Relentless Energy Drink, and was the first rider to join the eclectic Asphalt Yacht Club team after founder Stevie Williams. We’re still waiting for his own DVD part, but he has kept himself busy touring Europe with Flip (or at least he did until he dislocated his elbow skating a ledge in Germany).
Born on 20th June 1989, Ben first picked up a board at the age of 11, and grew up skating tranny in his hometown, interspersed with day trips to London on the train. From the humble beginning of of a ‘sponsor me’ tape, which got him some free Vans shoes, he made rapid progress, getting the cover of Sidewalk and joining British super-team Blueprint, and it came as no surprise when he was headhunted from across the pond.
Influenced by relaxed riders such as Stefan Janoski, Ben has an effortless, asleep-at-the-wheel style that makes everything that he does look easy. However, don’t be fooled – look again and you may just be able to understand what is going on, usually involving his magic, fast-moving feet.
