A Transworld section is a fairly solid indicator of a skateboarder’s respect within the scene, so it was no surprise to see Mike coming through with a section in 2000’s Modus Operandi. His monologue regarding the mental torture of trying a trick with thoughts of injuries flicking through the brain like a cheap horror flick placed him firmly as a skater’s skater, subject to the same pressures the rest of us deal with whilst trying to kickflip down the local car park three set. The skating, with its barrage of hammers, should belie this; but rather it builds the hype regardless of the viewer’s ability, as Carroll doing a tre flip on flat is just as memorable as him doing the same down an awkwardly angled double set.
