Paul Shier has been a UK scene mainstay for decades and is still making his presence felt as a founder member of and pro rider for Isle skateboards despite living in LA. Growing up skating the weathered ledges and crazy paving ground of Fairfields in Croydon is undoubtedly part of the reason why he can skate the crustiest spots with ease, while quick feet and an instantly recognisable style seal the deal to make him one of the finest exports from these gloomy shores.

In the midst of continuing to make his name synonymous with Fairfields, Paul still finds time to charge full pelt at banks, stairs, gaps and any number of ledges.

Starting off with a banger of a line at the iconic China Banks in SF, Paul takes his quick feet and big bag of tricks to a number of classic US locations including no less than three hits at Hubba Hideout…
Blueprint – Waiting for the World (2000)
You could put this section on with someone in the room blindfolded and they would still know immediately that we were back from the States – that unmistakeable clatter of badly laid paving slabs places you firmly back in the UK, or London to be precise, as Shier lays it down at St Pauls, Shell Centre and beyond. Extra props for using Bob James’ ‘Angela’ for the soundtrack, which was later sampled to great effect by Souls of Mischief and that version used in a Mike Carroll Embarcadero throwback clip.
Blueprint – First Broadcast (2001)
First Broadcast lay somewhere between a Blueprint video and an independent UK scene production with extremely high production values, featuring alongside Shier were such luminaries as Frank Stephens, John Rattray, Vaughan Baker and many more.
411VM Issue 51 ‘Roomies’ (2002)
Back in the Catalan city’s skate heyday, Paul Shier and Kenny Reed spent a summer renting out a room in Barcelona and sampling the city’s architectural delights. The ensuing 411Vm ‘Roomies’ section features shredding from the two, alongside cameos from Will Harmon, Rob Gonzales, Stefan Janoski, Karl Watson, Ricky Oyola and more…

Shier shares a part with Mark Baines in Baines’ Sheffield-heavy independent video Driving South. Dev Green hammers galore, Cockmaster represent!
Static II – The Invisibles (2004)
Shier teams up with Josh Stewart for a Euro-heavy section in Static II: The Invisibles. The travelling tre at 2:13 is boss, as is the escalator session at 3:11, as are the Colin Kennedy and Nick Jensen cameos, watch this then hunt down the video in full!
Blueprint – Lost and Found (2005)
“It just feels so nasty!” Paul’s section in Lost and Found kicks off with a grim ledge and a musical nod to Waiting for the World before kicking into full pelt ledge lines and crusty bank spots, with the section’s ender seeing him return to the Static II bank/bench spot…
DVS – Dudes, Dudes, Dudes (2008)
A short DVS video release in 2008 saw a number of montages bookended by two full sections, which went to Paul Shier and Torey Pudwill – they definitely came through with the goods!
Blueprint – Make Friends with the Colour Blue (2010)
Shier’s last full section up until ‘Vase’ premières tomorrow sees him going in on some next level ledge combos, approaching some classic spots with a fresh eye and bag of tricks, and generally tearing the streets a new one with an instantly recognisable style. After this it wasn’t long before Blueprint folded and Paul started Isle along with Nick Jensen, so we’re stoked to see more tomorrow night from Croydon’s finest.
