The Palace Skateboards juggernaut continues its relentless assault on your stoke receptors, this time with their latest promo video entitled Betamaximum Palace which sees a full squad heading out to Hawaii to film this much sunnier juxtaposition to last year’s full length production Palasonic (filmed entirely on the streets of London). Luckily, the rolling volcanic hills offer up just as much in the way of rugged architecture as the cramped alleyways and 70s council estates of South London and seeing Lucas Puig skating a natural miniramp in a fullpipe, or Danny Brady hitting Wallows (the iconic ditch spot best known for its place in The Search for Animal Chin), isn’t as incongrous as it sounds. The sun kissed beaches, on the other hand, definitely don’t remind me of rush hour on the Northern Line.

Lucas Puig, Shawn Powers, Rory Milanes, Danny Brady, Benny Fairfax, Jamal Smith, Juan Saavedra, Lucien Clarke and Chewy Cannon handle shredding duties, making the most of spots ranging from the permanently ingrained in skate culture to the relatively unknown, and find enough time for a few hits at the savage looking Sheepside DIY – with a guest appearance from current Hawaiian resident and certified skateboarding legend Arto Saari for good measure.

For more grimy, lo-fi street business from the Palace crew, you could do much worse than have a break from the sun and enjoy the 40 minute statement of intent that is Palasonic. Finished that and it’s still too hot for you to go outside? That’s alright, the evenings stay light for longer now and we wouldn’t be so cruel as to bring up that point in January where you were moaning about the winter.
