Three Swords and a Dragon – Sox’s Japan video

With Jordan Thackeray, Toby Gozzett, Mikey Joyce and Daisuke Kagoshima

We’re stoked that we got a heads up from Welsh Allan this morning about Three Swords and a Dragon; a video captured by Sox during his recent Japanese trip with Jordan Thackeray, Toby Gozzett and Mikey Joyce to visit occasional London resident and layback aficionado Daisuke Kagoshima and spend a month skating whatever they found in their path. Featuring those five alongside whoever else they pointed a camera at, this is a rawly lo-fi dose of hype which should set your weekend up nicely, or have you spending the next two days comparing flight prices on the web.

A soundtrack consisting of The Germs, Jimmy Cliff (from his excellent 2012 album Rebirth), J-Thaxx’s banjo picking and the Batman theme gone pyschobilly matches the array of skating on display here in terms of eccentricity; between this lot there’s probably more tricks variations than you’ve had hot dinners. A varied selection of terrain ranging from skateparks and DIY-looking indoor bowls to shopping centres and undercover train station transitions offers plenty of scoping for everyone to delve into that trick bag, we can guarantee you won’t come away disappointed by this one…

For an insight into Sox’s nomadic existence, hit the words below to read his interview from Sidewalk Issue 226;

“Yes! The skateboarding network is the one. You need some kind of hobby, something to help you interact with like-minded people definitely, and skateboarding is the best. If you go somewhere where they don’t have skateboards it’s even better – you can just fucking give them the gift of skateboarding, see their faces when they try to stand on it, that’s a good laugh.

I’m sure I wouldn’t have done at least half as much travelling around if it wasn’t for skateboarding. That was what ignited the spark for me. Meeting people one day, and then the next you go visit them where they live and the network of good times and friends just grows and grows. Most people I’ve stayed with have been skaters.”
