Prawns and Steak – Welsh Allan’s birthday weekend

Shoreham, Lewes and The Level

To celebrate his birthday last weekend Welsh Allan headed east, hitting Sussex with a group of fellow Carve associates and coming back with ‘Prawns and Steak’, an edit which sees the crew hitting Shoreham Bowl, The Level, Lewes DIY and Lewes Skatepark itself – presumably the latter as late as possible, the weekend scooter hordes are fairly good at dampening a daytime session there.

Featuring Sam Pulley, Ben Morris, Stevie Thompson, Tom Bailey, George Reilly, Toby Gozzett, Sox and Ollie Josty enjoying the delights of South East concrete. Happy belated birthday Al!

Shoreham is one of the most underrated gems in the skatepark chain which runs across the South East coast, with a regular crew of locals keeping the bowl in the sort of condition that most parks subject to sea air and teenage boredom have no chance of matching. Just go skate Hastings and Shoreham in one day and feel the difference for yourself (still go and skate Hastings though, it’s still banging and you can treat yourself to a slap up dinner at Hastings Wetherspoons meat market or a snort of ether down at Bottle Alley afterwards). Still, after all these years of use, Pulley’s line which starts at 0:38 must be up there with the best to go down in Shoreham Bowl so far? Absolutely ridiculous…

The Level’s impact on the local scene has been well documented in these pages, Lewes Skatepark is fun if you can deal with the scooter problem and Lewes DIY has recently risen from the ashes of local idiots smashing it up so we’re stoked to see it getting a sessioning! Chuck in Forest Row, the aforementioned Boyley Park in Hastings and a couple of other obscure gems and a weekend’s skate mission to Sussex is looking like a pretty solid prospect. Just don’t try and do it via Southern Rail, you’ll end up stuck on a replacement bus for so long you’ll be forced into a cannibalistic battle for survival with your fellow passengers and eventually be found with your bloody jaws plowing through some poor pensioners stomach lining.
