The Nike SB LDNR Skate Week will see three parks across London (Baysixty6 and the Better Extreme parks in Barking and Kidbrooke) opening for free over the half term week. From the 10th to the 18th of February, Bay will be free from midday until 4pm, while both Better Extreme skateparks will be free from midday until 4pm and then again from 6pm until 10pm – offering plenty of opportunity to get a free skate in while the weather stops you doing anything of the sort outdoors. At Bay there will also be Korahn Gayle, Savannah Keenan and Kyron Davis dropping in for various jams throughout the week just to sweeten the deal
Baysixty6 is the current incarnation of Westbourne Park’s long serving undercover skatepark which began its life as Playstation Skatepark way back in 1997, since when it has seen any number of tours and demos as well as harbouring plenty of homegrown talent within its confines. The current layout features a an array of street furniture, various quarter along the entrance wall and a particularly fun rainbow rail, with the back half of the park taken up by a long bowl which has an elbow in the middle and a miniramp with two different levels.
Barking is Better Extreme’s first skatepark, featuring a bowl, a few small miniramps and a well designed street course, while Kidbrooke is its recently opened sister park near Greenwich which features a street course leading down to a selection of quarters along one wall – including a doorway gap in the bigger quarter which looks especially good for harnessing your inner mosher! All in all, between these three parks you should find something to keep you happy over the next few days – so pencil the dates and times on the flyer onto your eyelids and go skate without fear of what the February forecast is sending our way next…
