Sunday Service: John Rattray – ‘Dying to Live (2002)

500 miles and more with John Rattray and Zero...

It was massive news when John Rattray parted ways with Blueprint shortly after the release of their seminal VHS offering ‘Waiting for the World’ – in what was only a handful of years, this lad from Scotland had quickly made his way through the UK skateboarding ranks and had been singled out by none other than Jamie Thomas to continue his seven-ply mission under the Zero banner.

His first full section for Zero, as part of their 2002 video ‘Dying to Live’, was a welcome addition to the Rattray back catalogue and is now rightfully regarded as a classic. Mixing balls out all terrain attacks with some lighthearted footwork and a keen eye for the route less travelled, John and the Proclaimers powered their way through this solid three minute part, which 14 years later, is still on heavy rotation with skateboarders the world over.
