The Streetys Are Ours Episode 2

When the snow hits, we take shelter at indoor skateparks and DIY punk gigs

The Streetys Are Ours Episode 2 – Big up Temple of Boom!

Once the first episode of The Streetys Are Ours came out, the plan was to post the next one a month later. Unfortunately the British winter – which up until that point had been suspiciously mild – decided to fully kick into gear, leaving skaters across the country twiddling their thumbs, perfecting their pint drinking abilities or doing whatever they do for those times when skating is for the most part out of the question.

The majority of February and March was marked by snow, rain, hail and whatever other grimness could be chucked our way, but it’s not like this is new – when the weather bites we go undercover, making the most of dingy indoor skateparks, dodging security in underground car parks and spending our money on punk gigs and pub marathons.

A couple of weekend missions to Leeds saw me playing the role of harbinger of shit weather, with snow settling in for both visits despite the temporal distance between the trips. Luckily The Works in Leeds and Boom Skatepark in Upton offer shelter from such grimness; and what else are you going to do when the Beeston Banks session you’ve been dreaming of slowly disappears behind a veil of wind-tossed snow? Throw in a gig at Leeds’ best DIY venue (Temple of Boom) which saw Voorhees (OG Northern hardcore band fronted by former Wisdom employee Lecky) supporting the almighty Negative Approach, alongside as much booze as my wallet and organs could hack and winter weekends don’t look so bad…

Featuring Chris Pope, Nathan Wood, Joe Howard, Harley, me, James Foster and Blinky.

Cheers to The Works, Boom Skatepark, Temple of Boom/Lecky/Wig, Negative Approach and of course the RWTB fam for leaving my PMA in much stronger condition than the circulation in my extremities!
