The Nine Club with Chris Roberts episode 79: Marc McKee

Rocco, Big Brother, Satan graphics and more...

This week’s episode of The Nine Club sees former Big Brother editor and long time board graphic artist Marc McKee sitting down on the show to talk growing up in Marin County CA, going to art school at UCLA, meeting Steve Rocco, working for World Industries in the early 90s, creating classic board graphics, the notorious Natas Kaupas 101 graphic, his involvement with Big Brother magazine, how he created Flameboy, Wet Willy and the Devil man graphics, World Industries being sold for 43 million dollars, cease and desist letters and much more…

Marc was at the forefront of the switch in skate graphic themes from the late 80s into the early 90s and was not afraid to push boundaries and, like Chris Roberts says at the beginning of this interview, “If you skated in the nineties you most likely have ridden his graphics that he’s drawn”. He was also at the World Industries camp for some of Rocco’s most over the top gestures in the process and ending up at the legendarily anarchic Big Brother Magazine, so you know he’s not getting stuck for things to talk about!

For more of an insight into Big Brother’s history, check out the interview we conducted with Dave Carnie and Sean Cliver – in between getting tear gassed at Place de la Republique and necking cheap French brandy at Jim Morrison’s grave – in Paris. Then, once you’ve read that, pick up a copy of DC Shoes’ Big Brother book if you can find it! In the words of Dave Carnie, “It was a perfect storm of stupid – a perfect group of shitheads came together and it just worked.
