Nike SB Berlin Open – Footage and photos

“Competitors stepped up their game Sunday for the Semis and Finals of the Nike SB Berlin Open at the Shelter Skatepark. Another packed house saw the 30 qualified skaters from Saturday’s heats all take to the park in order to bring the rider count down to the 12 who would skate finals.”

“Consistency was notched up in the Semis as the €20,000 prize purse came into reach and saw Giorgi Balhhamishvili have one of his best ever comp runs, surprising himself into the last 12 and twisting up decent hurricane on the kink rail in the process. Equally as surprised was Hyun Kummer who was just under a minute late to his heat yet casually put down an ally Oop BS flip over the A frame and kickflips to both back and frontside  5-0 down the hubba, strolling into finals.”

“Such was the level from all riders that final’s jams were switched up to 2 man, 3 minute visits, giving judges brain time and skaters an unimpeded run of the park. This proved perfect for Vincent Milou whose lines took him all over, and out of, the park, popping out of the top of the China Bank to Back Smith on a brick sized ledge and into 3rd place. Kummer utilizing the full allocated time for his final run, made the most of it, cruising the park with a super laidback style and bizarre no footed airwalk ollies, casually dropping a varial flip the hard way over the rail – 2nd. Winning rights are handed firmly to Matias Dell Olio who came out of the blocks fully loaded and ready to fire – switch flip back tail on the hubba, Hard flip back lip, feeble grind the whole of the kinked rail, big flip front board on the A-Frame rail and some of the best air punches of the day.”
