Blockhead Skateboards’ ‘Splendid Eye Torture’ had an incredible soundtrack, with Ian MacKaye offering them free reign with the Dischord Records back catalogue. This helped firmly cement them amongst the new wave of grittier, street-heavy videos, alongside Santa Cruz (who were similarly working with SST Records) acting as a counterpoint to the high budget Powell-Peralta productions.
The nervous funk punk of ‘Margin Walker’ accompanies a young Rick Howard utilising curbs to perfect the technical ledge skating which would become his own, in between hitting handrails, banks and the kind of amazing miniramp set ups which didn’t seem to exist outside of late 80s US skate videos. It seems fitting that a fledgling band who would become so instrumental in the development of a new genre should appear alongside someone who would end up being seen as a pioneer of modern street skating
