US brand Emerica has been providing skaters around the world with resilient and functional shoes and clothing since 1996. Its current elite team features US stars such as Andrew Reynolds, Leo Romero, Bryan Herman, Brandon Westgate, Collin Provost, Jerry Hsu, Justin ‘Figgy’ Figueroa, Ed Templeton, Jeremy Leabres, Aaron Suski and Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long.
Emerica is also active in Europe where its continent-wide team features the talents of Holland’s Rob Maatman, young French-born sensation Oscar Candon and all-terrain ripper Eniz Fazliov from Albania/Finland. There is also a UK team, including Casper Brooker and Isle Skateboards’ Tom Knox. In the summer of 2013, many of Emerica’s riders toured the UK, and the resultant Made In Emerica video was well-received.
Emerica products include Westgate’s ultra-light signature shoe, the ‘Westgate G6’, first seen in the four-minute webclip Brandon Westgate: New Shoe, New Part and roadtested in the 2013 full-length film MADE: Chapter One. Also released recently was the Romero-endorsed ‘Troubadour Low’ and a slim fit redesign of the ‘Leo Dos’, as well as Reynolds’ ‘Workwear’ line, featuring slim and straight versions of the classic skater’s jeans.
Apart from MADE, the company has released many other great videos – 1997’s Yellow was followed in 2003 by the full-length This Is Skateboarding directed by the innovative filmmaking team of Mike Manzoori and Jon Miner. Then came the tour videos Kids in Emerica (2004), Wild Ride (2007) and Wild in the Streets (2008). The second full-length Emerica film was Miner’s Stay Gold from 2010.
