George Toland has just uploaded his footage from the Long Live Southbank X Brixton’s Baddest Summer Jam, which saw a heavy turnout celebrating the Undercroft’s continued existence as well as raising awareness of their campaign to have the currently closed area re-established for use by skateboarders. With a couple of new obstacles in the mix courtesy of Blast Skates, alongside sessions on the regular obstacles that claim Southbank as home and music courtesy of Know Wave Radio, this was a shining example of just how much can happen when a scene unites and takes control of it’s own place in society. It even saw non other than Tom Penny make an appearance to chuck a kickflip fakie on the quarterpipe!

The basic goal of the Long Live Southbank campaign as it stands is to, as the press release states, restore the space to its original size and more;

“The upcoming reconfiguration of the existing Undercroft sees an extension of this internationally renowned skate space, including improvements to lighting and a restoration of original 1960s banks and concrete paving. The creation of a new educational centre will sit alongside this, enabling children and young people to engage in wide-ranging learning and creative activities curated by Southbank Centre. The collaborative development will benefit local residents and wider communities including visitors to London and the capital’s cultural landscape as a whole.”
