Following on from James Harris’ re-edit of the 2010 Shiner Big Push entry, we decided it was high time to revisit this classic in its original form for this week’s Sunday Services.

Featuring Dan Wileman, Caradog Emanuel, Matt Davies, Carl Wilson, Matthew Nevitt, Stu Graham and Barney Page taking on the varied parks and spots of Scotland and the North of England, this one features some serious gnarliness and nostalgia in equal measure. Footage at the now sadly long gone Needleside is juxtaposed with clips of the crew ripping a fledgling New Bird, which is still thankfully going strong and boasts at least double the concrete that it has in this clip. It’s rad to see parks which these days don’t see many visitors (possibly due to the decline in large scale company tours?) getting hit hard, with the likes of Hyde Park in Leeds, Thornes Park in Wakefield and Five Bridges in Newcastle getting a bruising from all concerned and having us pining for the days of regular cross country missions.

As mentioned when we posted James Harris’ video, Stu Graham’s attempt at the quarterpipe to flatbank transfer at Hyde Park is still skateboarding insanity at its finest – a transfer which as far as I know no one else has touched to this day, landing both feet on the corner of the flatbank and resulting in a broken foot. Anyone else want a go? Thought not…

For the younger readers out there, The Big Push was basically the UK’s equivalent to King of the Road but with less hyperbole about shotgunning small cans of beer. Started way back in 2005 by the much missed Document Magazine, the contest continued with us when they finished all the way up until 2012. Various challenges being taken on by multiple vans full of idiots travelling around the country for a week was a guaranteed recipe for enjoyment/absurd goings on – confirmation can be found by casting your eyeballs over the Big Push tab on our website!
