The Fifty Fifty Store 2017 Mixtape is made up of the final part of the retrospective edit which we recently featured as a Sunday Service, separated from the mothership by Tidy Mike as a companion piece to the full video and a favour to those of you whose attention spans have been so thoroughly annihilated by Instagram that you didn’t even make it to the end of this sentence.
Clocking in at four minutes in length, this clip still manages to cover plenty of ground as the extended Fifty Fifty fam went on a good few lengthy missions last year. Of course the expected environs of Lloyds Amphitheatre and Dean Lane Skatepark are in the mix (as is only right), but it’s some of the lesser sessioned spots which demand attention here. The crust ramp which lives in the rural countryside just outside of the Bristolian metropolis, the rarely skated rugged slopes of Welsh Wallows, North Wales backyard pits, salt-ravaged seaside bank spots and slimy back alley stair sets – the Fifty Fifty crew aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and that definitely shows in terms of aesthetics here, with every clip oozing with grime and redolent with the threat of tetanus. Big up Fifty Fifty!
The original full length retrospective, in case you missed it, was to celebrate the store’s twenty year anniversary – which, in terms of the volatile economic conditions of both the skate industry and the whole bastard world over the course of that time, is more than impressive. Danny Wainwright and Justin Sydenham’s vision has done way more for the Bristol scene than I can put forward in this text, I can only recommend that you watch this, go watch the full length video which birthed it, then buy them both a pint next time you’re in Bristol!
