Zeta Rush ‘First Light’ interview from Sidewalk 202

From Sidewalk 202 – July 2014

Zeta’s a girl who can do more no comply variations than you have followers on Instagram.
She’s fully committed to skateboarding and always down to trip to a spot, only asking for a McDonald’s in return instead of the usual money for petrol. We didn’t intend on getting this First Light, we just decided to hit something different. What you can’t see in the photo is that the run up is extremely nasty so big props to Zeta for this! This is the part where people normally say keep your eyes peeled for more from her but honestly she will probably just keep shredding humbly.

I’ve known Zeta for quite a while now, having joined the same school as her nearly 7 years ago. I didn’t hang around with her or her friends that much at first though because I was cool and they were all greebos. I can’t remember the first time I skated with her but it was probably at Towcester Skatepark, and I’m pretty sure she had more tricks on the quarter pipe than me. We formed a little crew with some other guys from the area and would skate together quite a lot at the park, in this little abandoned football club building or sometimes even in Milton Keynes! Through the time I’ve skated with her I’ve witnessed her progress to the where she is at today. No comply combos, rad ledge tricks and beating a fair few locals in games of skate (I won’t name them as they are males and will be embarrassed). Zeta has always been out to have fun, and has never been that bothered about getting photos or filming. I think that makes this First Light even better, knowing that she probably didn’t even think about having the photo run in a mag when she did it. Keep doing what you do Zeta, (that includes letting me jump in your car because of raising fuel prices) and mad props on this!

I’ll try not to rush into talking about Z… For such a small person she certainly stands out. Zeta doesn’t comply to your standard skate manoeuvres but by putting the woman’s touch into her skateboarding by rolling on some (pimpin’) pink wheels, she certainly maintains some gender stereotypes. Personally what I like about Z is she is always on the hunt for new spots, and isn’t afraid to leave the sheltered roof of Buszy. If you do however see a girl skating down Buszy, don’t be afraid to say hi and give her a game of S.K.A.T.E., as she’s a friendly one. Be warned though, you might end up wondering how you got beat by a girl! (Just like Troy). Did I mention she is really good on a skateboard?
