The Vans Spring Classic is hitting Riccione in Italy this weekend (May 29th -31st), with plenty of miniramp madness on the cards. Check out the flyer, teaser video and below those the press release from Vans for more details, and if you can’t make the weekend itself? We’ve got your back and will be streaming the whole thing live all weekend…
Acknowledging the Vans Spring Classic’s reputation for good times and creative skateboarding, Vans is proud to announce some very special guests who are the indisputable kings of both: the Antihero team! Julien Stranger, Grant Taylor, Andrew Allen, Peter Hewitt and Europe’s own Daan Van Der Linden will be unleashed on Riccione. As one of the world’s most respected skate teams – and one with a longstanding relationship with Vans – and as a bunch of guys known for going all out, the Antihero team are sure to be a highlight of the event and give everyone a run for their money on the Mini Ramp.
To get things started on Friday evening, there’ll be a ‘Best Trick’ session on the Mini Ramp, starting at 17:30. With the chilled approach to competition that the event is famous for, the session will take a ‘cash for tricks’ format, where everyone can get warmed up and set to impress. No doubt skaters such as Rob Smith; with his ball-out approach to transition skating, ‘All Terrain’ Trev Johnson, Aurelien Giraud and other favourites will be right in there and grabbing the cash from the start!
Before the competition really gets underway, there’s a treat in store for everyone in town, as the Vans Spring Classics hosts it’s very own premier of Propeller; Vans’ highly anticipated feature length skate film, directed by the legendary Greg Hunt, and featuring riders from five decades of Vans. Having toured the world and now available exclusively on iTunes, Vans are stoked to bring this very special film to Riccione for the Vans Spring Classic. No need to book a ticket, just rock up and enjoy! The screening will take place at Hakuna Matata on the beachfront, and starts at 21:00.
As ever, there’s plenty to keep you entertained away from the action at the Vans Spring Classic. Aside from the beautiful seaside town of Riccione itself, there’ll be the Vans Village, where you can get your haircut, courtesy of the good men from AONO Barbers, while the ladies can get their hair braided at the Braid Bar, and everyone’s favourite tea-drinking creatives – Lovenskate – will be on hand to help you design your dream Vans! Adding to the creativity is a very special pop-up appearance from FILLER: the convention for lovers of graphic arts, illustration, skateboarding and punk music. FILLER will be curating a one-of-a-kind art battle between five artists, where Johnny Cobalto, Luca Yety Battaglia, Davide Pagliardini, Thunderbird and Carmelo Garaffo will go head to head, with the winners piece earning it’s place at Filler Milano. If you’re lucky, they might even customize your own skateboard or t-shirt!
With your new haircut and the competition’s qualifying rounds out of the way, get ready for the evening, as when darkness falls, Radio 105’s Max Brigante opens the show with a DJ set on the main stage. Following that, live performances from Noyz Narcos & Fritz Da Cat, Dope D.O.D. and Violent Voices light up Riccione’s seafront. If you’re still not done, there’s the official after party at Cocoricò, where Max Brigante steps back up to the decks along with fellow spinsmith Tayone to keep the party going until the early hours.
