SkatePAL have just launched a campaign to raise funds towards the community-built Jayyous Skatepark in the village of Jayyous, Palestine. Check out the video below and then click here or on the mock up of the proposed skatepark layout below to donate!
Jayyous Skatepark is a collaboration between SkatePal and SkateQilya, two non-profit organisations empowering girls and boys in Palestine through skateboarding.
This September we will be working with a team of international volunteers and professional skatepark builders to construct a 600m2, free access community skatepark in the picturesque Palestinian village of Jayyous.
Working together with the local community and partner organisations, we will provide the fast-growing group of skateboarders in Jayyous a safe space to engage with each other and call their own!
Our skatepark site is next to the main high school in the centre of Jayyous, making it easily accessible for all young people in the village and surrounding area.
Jayyous is a Palestinian village in the north western part of the West Bank, close to Qalqilya. It is a farming community with a population of around 5000 people.
Half of the population of Jayyous are under 25. There are currently no safe places for young people to play and engage with each other. The only playground in the village has been run down and completely unusable for years. Outside of studying, children mostly spend their days hanging out in the streets to pass the time.
In recent years, skateboarding has been growing in popularity across the West Bank, and in Jayyous, boys and girls have embraced skateboarding as a fun new activity.
We are excited to give these young skaters a space to work together, creatively express themselves and empower their community, planting seeds for future generations.
