“I don’t have any money and I can’t come on the tour,” said Sam down the phone first thing in the morning. A few hundred miles and a few hundred minutes later the last five riders on the Rogue tour 2008, including Sam, arrived in Leeds’ Hyde Park for day one of the ‘Mega Mission’.

There was excitement in the air and skating on the ground, a small group of on-looking drunken men with a penchant for Emma Richardson (aka “shorty”), a discarded box of Diazepam from the night before – nothing to do with us, a young girl with a bottle of Jack Daniels and a flask of Coke, and towards the end there was Mad Mike – but he’s another story.
