RIP Bristo Square
RIP Bristo Square
Bristo Square was redeveloped and made into the skateable mecca that we all know it as in 1983, with the University of Edinburgh surely not expecting the steadily growing influx of skateboarders drawn to its open space and surrounding ledges. It wasn’t long before it became central to Edinburgh’s scene as both a meeting point to head out into the city, or just a place to skate/lurk in whatever ratio seemed appropriate at the time.
Fast forward to now, and the skateboarders of Edinburgh are losing what has become a part of their skate history – the space where skateboarders, students and pissheads rubbed shoulders is in the early stages of being replaced, taking with it the skateable architecture which drew skaters to it in the first place. Over the next few pages you’ll find some of our favourite photos and bits of footage from Bristo Square, so get stuck in and remind yourself of the good times!
