Pop Trading Company – Antwerpen
Transworld and Pop Trading Company presents ‘Antwerpen’, a black and white slice of skate hype filmed by Sami el Hassani on the streets of Antwerp to direct attention to their latest collection. The Belgian streets aren’t too dissimilar from ours, with architecture scored by cumulative harsh winters and a plethora of cobbled streets meaning that a creative eye is needed to fully take advantage of street skating opportunities.
A combination of Pop riders and friends Yeelen Moens, Alex Raeymaekers, Jeff van der Veken, Logan Da Silva Ortiz, Willem Dirks, Bastiaan van Zadelhoff and Billy Hoogendijk means that finding that eye is not an issue, so fans of lo-fi, creative street ripping should definitely pay close attention to this one!
To celebrate the launch of its new AW18 Collection, Pop Trading Company released an Antwerp focused 4:3 clip by master lensman Sami El Hassani. It features Pop Trading Company Antwerp ambassadors Yeelen Moens and Alex Raeymaekers with Jeff van der Veken, Logan Da Silva Ortiz and Willem Dirks. Cameos from Bastiaan van Zadelhoff and Billy Hoogendijk. The concept of the clip is based around the city’s name, which is easily explained by this piece of Wikipedia:
“According to folklore, notably celebrated by a statue in front of the town hall, the city got its name from a legend about a giant called Antigoon who lived near the Scheldt river. He extracted a toll from passing boatmen, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river. Eventually the giant was killed by a young hero named Silvius Brabo, who cut off the giant’s own hand and flung it into the river. Hence the name Antwerpen, from Dutch hand werpen, akin to Old English hand and wearpan (to throw), which has evolved to today’s warp.”
