The Nine Club with Tony Hawk to celebrate Episode 100

Two and a half hours with the Birdman

The Nine Club with Tony Hawk

The Nine Club celebrates its 100th episode with none other than Tony Hawk, freshly turned 50 and coming off the back of his filming 50 tricks to celebrate that milestone. Over a two and a half hour stretch the Birdman talks how the 50 tricks came about, his viral 720 slam towards the end of the filming process, the secret to taking slams trying 900s, being part of the Bones Brigade, starting Birdhouse, the runaway success of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games and plenty more.

The Nine Club has gone from strength to strength recently, hitting its stride in consistently sitting down with some of skateboarding’s most interesting characters each week (a recent episode saw further Bones Brigade insights from Tommy Guerrero), so it was a no brainer to make the 100th episode a big one – it had to be Big Tone or The Gonz really, didn’t it? – and this definitely fits that parameter. Tony has been in the limelight for longer than 99% of pro skateboarders, has indelibly changed skateboarding through his drive for progression and comes across in interviews as a genuinely humble dude; in other words, put the next two hours aside and dive in…

“That 720 was my 49th trick and my very first thought as I flew off the ramp was holy shit, I’m not going to finish this video.”

“This week we’ve got Tony Hawk discussing his brother giving him his first skateboard and that board ending up in the Smithsonian, getting on Powell Peralta, filming “The Search For Animal Chin”, starting Birdhouse, doing 50 tricks at age 50, the 900, why he started The Tony Hawk Foundation, Tony Hawks Pro Skater video games, getting on Lakai Footwear, the technique for doing the loop, getting slimed on Nickelodeon and much more!”
