Red Bull distributed 10 tonnes of materials to 20 skate shops across the country a few months back, with the plan of it going to local skaters to build or work on existing DIY projects in the area. They were also given disposable cameras to document the build, culminating in ‘DIY – Through the Eyes of the Builders’, an exhibition showcasing the results which will open at Parlour this Saturday evening (8pm). Check more details below, head over on Saturday night for a few beers and some inspiration, then go out and build your own…
10 tonnes of materials were distributed to 20 stores across the country allowing anyone to kick start a DIY spot. Crews had 4 months to collect materials, build, skate and document their story using a disposable camera.
Every DIY spot has its charm, its own challenges and a character that is bought about through the creative nature of the skaters involved. For these reasons every spot is unique, positively contributing to the local community it resides. But spots can come and go in the blink of an eye and all of this is lost forever. This exhibition is a time capsule, capturing the essence of each DIY spot across the country between April – July 2016 through the eyes of the people who put in the hard graft – the builders. This is their story.
