Bournemouth Broadcast 4 by Gian Calipa

Unfortunately that smell turned out to be a claggy, sun-ripened swirl of fox/cat/miscellaneous creature's scat...

A couple of summers ago I spent a lovely, sunny day – much like this one – in the seaside town which, as it has been in previous episodes, is the focus of Gian Calipa‘s Bournemouth Broadcast 4. After a mid morning session at Kings Park we headed out to Duck Lane, where the feral kids took a liking to us and decided to “…not snake them ones, just those other dicks.” Which obviously meant we got snaked by proxy, but the compliment made us glow. Then we headed for the venerable Slade’s Farm, a park I’ve always had a great time at and was in fact having on that particular day, though I did wonder what that strange, sweetly noxious smell was. Unfortunately that smell turned out to be a claggy, sun-ripened swirl of fox/cat/miscellaneous creature’s scat, voided squarely into the middle of the lumpen bowl corner that I had been skating around repeatedly for the previous half an hour. It wasn’t a high point in my life, but luckily a bloke working in the youth centre next door was kind enough to chuck bog roll, water and disinfectant my way.

This act of kindness has always left me positively predisposed towards Bournemouth and I’ve never even been street skating there – which I think would make me enjoy it even more, with the spots looking just the right level of crust. I’m not sure I’d enjoy the rail at the end which Jamie Platt knackers his knackers on, but different strokes etc. Jamie is briefly out of action again after more slams by all accounts, so heal up soon!

Featuring Jamie Platt, Sammy Mould, Charlie Usher, Barney Hayter, Curtis Howkins, Kane, Jacob Malt, Milo Anani and Simon Turner.

Additional filming by Milo Anani.
