Behind the French Fred Scenes – Thibaud Fradin part 1

Heavy slams, heavier makes and even a Shell Centre sighting

Behind the French Fred Scenes returns with eight and a half minutes of raw, stylish shredding from one time Cliche pro Thibaud Fradin. Filmed over the course of five years between 2003 and 2008 during the period when Jeremie Daclin’s crew were a common sight across Europe – whether it be collecting footage for full length videos, indulging in their annual Gypsy Tours or just generally sailing the seas of continental skate hype – this episode with Thibaud covers multiple countries, cities and choices of spot over its course and shows just how versatile he is, despite never garnering the same attention as other members of the team. There’s even a trick or two at London’s legendary Shell Centre, making this doubly bittersweet as you wistfully reminisce on the days of both said spot and the venerable Cliche.

Teary eyed nostalgia aside, Thibaud clearly enjoys hurling himself full pelt at the gnarliest hubba ledges he can find, as well as anything else in his path, so this one throws up plenty of good slams for your sadistic entertainment amongst the makes. It’s also only part one of two, so sometime in the next couple of weeks there’s plenty more slams to come…

Okay, maybe a little more teary eyed nostalgia – it already seems like ages since Cliche closed its doors for the last time nearly a year and a half ago, bringing to a close the journey which began from an office in Lyon in the late 90s and came to the public consciousness properly with 2000s Europa. The brand pioneered the idea of running a successful international board oufit without adhering to the previously held notion that a company had to move to California to succeed within the industry and undoubtedly paved the way for the likes of Palace and Polar. If you a) are too young to really remember what they did for European skateboarding or b) just need a further dose of banging skateboarding to brighten up your Monday, go check out our ode to the company then go on a ten euro a day skate trip and see where it gets you!
