Wight Trash – Skateboard Deck Review – Ben Grove – Guest Board

An overview of Wight Trash Skateboards along with a Ben Grove 'guest board' review

Hailing from the glorious Isle of Wight, Wight Trash Skateboards made the transition from being a crew of mates to a fully functioning board brand back in 2004. With one time Panic Skateboards rider John Cattle at the helm, Wight Trash have come to acquire a steady team of both locals and long established heads from the mainland, including the likes of Flynn Trotman, Greg Nowik and Frank Stephens, with the Instagram exploding balance enthusiast Joe Moore (or @anyskate, if you prefer to function inside the Insta-domain) recently joining the ranks.

In recent years, Wight Trash has honoured a variety of influential figures with their very own guest boards. Firstly, Alex Moul scored a handful of re-workings of his infamous Deathbox graphics, then the multi-talented Kris Markovich painted his own guest board, and, keeping things completely random, John Cattle’s favourite skater Julio de la Cruz got the guest deck treatment as Jon Horner delivered his take on Eric Nash’s 1987 ‘Bandito’ graphic for Sims.

“With Jon Horner once again taking on artwork duties, this board features one of Grove’s idols, the Belfast born football legend George Best”

Which leads us on nicely to the Ben Grove guest board in question. With Jon Horner once again taking on artwork duties, this board features one of Grove’s idols, the Belfast born football legend George Best, who played for Manchester United in the years following Ben’s grandfather, Colin Brookes. Football trivia aside, this green-stained board is offered on an 8.25” width with a fairly mellow and long nose, and a shorter, steeper tail, making this a very ‘all terrain’ choice of deck.

So whether you want to whip your shirt off and nosepick the tallest surface at your local park like Grove at NASS, or scoop a backside 180 down your nearest hero gap with Oasis ringing in your ears like you’ve just scored the closing section of ‘Pusherman’, if you’re a fan of boards with a steady width and a mellow kick then this is the deck for you. And if you like football as well, that’s just an added bonus.
