Vans – Skateboard Shoe Review – Daniel Lutheran – Old Skool Pro

An in depth look and review of the Vans Daniel Lutheran 'Old Skool Pro' skate shoe

The Vans Old Skool is one of the most well-loved skateboarding shoes of all time: as well being one of the brand’s most instantly recognisable Classic models – the Old Skool reigns supreme alongside the Slip On, Authentic, Era and SK8-Hi as a part of the Vans Pro Skate range.

Originally released in 1977 as the Style #36, the Old Skool was the shoe that originally debuted the now iconic Vans sidestripe. The shoe’s silhouette has also inspired other popular models within the Vans range such as the Geoff Rowley Rowley [SOLOS] and the Anthony Van Engelen AV Rapidweld Pro signature shoes.

“if you’ve still never tried a pair of Vans Old Skools then you might as well start here with this fresh mint/pink iteration from relaxed madman Daniel Lutheran”

The Vans Old Skool Pro Daniel Lutheran shoe offers a beefy construction with a padded heel area providing a locked-in, comfortable and supportive fit, whilst still staying true to the brand aesthetic with a thin tongue and overall slim build. The Old Skool Pro also fits broader towards the forefront of the shoe making it good choice for skateboarders with a wider foot.

The short toe box also allows for precision foot placement and the Old Skool’s upper is a blend of suede/canvas construction and backed with Vans DURACAP – a tough rubber under-layer that ensures durability and sturdiness. Complementing Vans’ timeless vulcanised rubber outsole is an UltraCush HD footbed to provide a seamless feel between foot and board alongside providing excellent cushioning and comfort.

With the Old Skool featuring more panelled areas than other Vans shoes, part of the model’s early success has been attributed to its easily customisable nature. This still stands today as seen here with this Daniel Lutheran colourway for Winter 2017, with bright pastel colours reflecting the upbeat attitude of the Toy Machine rider himself, with the heel embroidery offering a nod to Dan Lu’s hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Overall – another classic from the Vans Pro Skate range – if you’ve still never tried a pair of Vans Old Skools (which we find hard to believe) then you might as well start here with this fresh mint/pink iteration from relaxed madman Daniel Lutheran. Watch his Propeller part too whilst you’re at it.
