Gilbert Crockett is a man of distinct tastes. It’s no secret that he’s inspired by the American clothing styles of the 1930s and the 1940s, and he’s stated in no shortage of recent interviews that the actual quality of clothes in 2017 is of great concern to him, so you know you’re in safe tattooed hands with these signature Gilbert trousers from Vans.

These striking toffee numbers were first spotted on Gilbert earlier this year, as the man himself went on a globetrotting mission to promote the release of his Crockett Pro 2 shoe from Vans. Message board lurkers and Instagram regulars were keen to speculate as to whether or not these particular trousers were workwear survivors from World War 2, but on October 1st this year the debate was swiftly ended as the final Gilbert approved pants were made available at Vans stockists worldwide.

What you’re looking at is a 100% cotton chino pant, offered in a loose fit with an 18” leg opening, meaning that these should instantly appeal to the skater who requires a baggier fitting trouser. They’ve got dual side-slash front pockets – ideal for holding your wallet, phone and keys during the session – and a single rear welt pocket. That’s where I’d probably keep my Oyster card.

Obviously not one for belts, Gilbert has worked a self draw-cord into the pants’ design too, so you don’t need to rely on bulky belt technology to keep these trousers firmly on your waist. The branding on the whole is fairly minimal – only fine detail on the metal buttons is visible on the outside, with the majority of the logo work and branding being found inside the waistline, out of sight to the casual observer.
