What started as a repeated tag or meme within the artwork of Chesterfield-born skater and business owner Louis Slater under the aegis of his ‘Slug Art’ persona, has rapidly evolved into a hard goods and clothing brand with huge cross-market appeal in both the worlds of skateboarding and fashion.

Slater’s own explanation for the distinctive kissing lips logo that adorns all of Sex Skateboards output is characteristically to the point.

“I like the word Sex, I like the Sex Pistols, and I like how it offends people.”

Most of Sex Skateboards hardgoods output follows a similar repeated theme with either plain wood grain or dipped boards emblazoned with the kissing lips Sex logo. From these humble beginnings, the Sex Skateboards brand has moved onto producing underwear, socks, t-shirts, bespoke leather jackets and everything in between, with Slater’s fashion output feted by the likes of Hypebeast and GQ Magazine and accepted with open arms by the haute couture fraternity.

Combining a deliberately provocative social media presence, (the Sex Skateboards account is regularly banned by Instagram for infringement of their somewhat confusing terms and conditions), user generated hype through Slater’s friends in the modeling world wearing their gear (usually attractive women in underwear), and by flowing product to numerous notable skaters in and around the Sheffield area, Sex Skateboard’s rise is a lesson in truly viral brand growth.

In terms of the Logo Deck featured here, width-wise this is on the larger end of the spectrum with a classic popsicle shape featuring a slightly longer and steeper nose, combined with a shorter spoon-shaped tail. The top ply is red wood stain with a full white painted bottom, complete with the distinctive and original Sex logo. If you want to wind your parents up, or display your openness to carnal adventure, this is the board for you.
