Quasi Skateboards started life under the name ‘Mother Collective’ before copyright issues forced the founder and former Alien Workshop employee Chad Bowers to rebrand as Quasi Skateboards early in the company’s life cycle.
For many skateboard brands, this enforced switch up might’ve signaled an early grave, but Bowers’ distinctive graphic approach and the undeniable raw power of their team saw Quasi emerge from this initial uncertainty into one of most highly respected outfits in the skate industry.
“Quasi’s aesthetic, like the name itself is deliberately opaque, featuring graphic artwork inspired by everything from fine art to direct references to the personal lives of the riders.”
This Al Davis ‘Genesis One’ pro deck features artwork by Austin, Texas based artist Will Gaynor, with nods to the iconography of the Black Panther Movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s.
The bottom graphic is sprayed silver featuring three ink drawings by Will Gaynor with the top ply adorned with a full-length detail from the bottom graphic, complete with Al Davis’ signature and the branded Quasi logo.
Shape wise you’re looking at a fairly generic popsicle shape with a squared off nose and tail and a fairly deep concave suited to the well-popped technical skating that Quasi’s newest pro Al Davis is known for.
The board is pressed by PS Stix and is also available on a yellow-stained 8.5” wide deck with the same graphic.
Quasi Skateboards are distributed in the UK by Keen Distribution.
