One of the most iconic and best loved of all wheel brands within skateboarding, Kryptonics have been around since 1976 and the original Star Trac wheels, (credited with changing the game as far as skateboard wheel technology was concerned), were first formulated by Jim Ford and urethane chemist Chuck Demerast during the height of the late 70’s skateboard boom.

The one major difference from the original second generation Kryptonics model is the incorporation of tough nylon cores in these reissues, which help to maintain the shape and integrity of softer wheels and combat the stress caused by the bend and torque of softer wheels in motion.

The nylon cores also mean that your bearings sit in a recessed area at the front of the wheel, with the rear bearing flush to the rear edge of the wheel.

These Kryptonics Red Star Trac Cruiser Wheels come in at a hefty 60mm in diameter and are designed for a cruiser set up, (they’re also popular amongst filmers for use during follow filming due to their smooth, grippy performance), so you’re going to need wide, high trucks, (or mid trucks with big riser pads) and/or a cruiser board with wheel wells to avoid wheelbite.

At an ultra soft 78a durometer reading, the emphasis here is on grip and smoothness and these wheels will handle any surface, no matter how rough, and performance-wise will give unbelievable grip on turns at any speed.
Be warned though – these are definitely not for modern street skating as the 78a compound will not slide like a harder wheel (upwards of 95a durometer reading) so make sure you know why you’re purchasing them.
