Long before the current vogue for shaped boards and cruiser decks, Krooked had already set the agenda for the resurgence of useless wooden toys that stepped outside of the popsicle paradigm. As with everything in skateboarding, whether that be switch methods out of jump ramps before the term ‘switch’ even existed, or filming modern skate videos on VHS 5 years before the Palace-led lo-fi explosion, Mark Gonzales is always ahead of the pack.
The Zip Zinger skateboard has been a part of Krooked’s hard goods range since the birth of the brand back in 2002 and is regularly re-released in different sizes and sporting different Gonz graphics with every Krooked seasonal drop.
This particular Krooked Zip Zinger ‘Racing Team’ model comes in at a diminutive (by 2017 standards) 7.5” in width, but with a 14.5” wheelbase and 30” of length is still more than applicable to trick-oriented skateboarding as Gonz himself has proven on many an occasion.
“Emblazoned with distinctive Gonz artwork and with a sharp nose and narrow but long squared off tail, this should be the deck of choice for anyone keen to get their cruise on without attracting the anti-longboard crowd”
Although the Zip Zinger silhouette harkens back to the slalom-influenced board shapes of the 1970’s, the length and wheelbase of this particular deck adds to the functionality of the board on the streets, despite it nominally falling into the ‘cruiser board’ bracket.
A firm favourite amongst filmers as a lightweight but highly maneuverable board for follow filming, set up with loose trucks and softer durometer wheels, (Krooked produce their own Zip Zinger specific wheels at 80A) the Zip Zinger is a perfect deck for getting around the busy city streets. This Racing Team model is also available on a slightly bigger deck, coming in at 8.6” wide for those with bigger feet keen to get busy on a carving tip.
Emblazoned with distinctive Gonz artwork and with a sharp nose and narrow but long squared off tail, this should be the deck of choice for anyone keen to get their cruise on without attracting the anti-longboard crowd. All the benefits of a regular board basically, but with the added bonus of Krooked’s seal of approval and a functional concave and shape.
