Under the watchful eye of the then elders of the Flip Skateboards operation – namely Geoff Rowley and filmer/TM/ex-Blueprint rider Ewan Bowman – David Gonzalez first burst onto the international skateboard scene back in 2003.

Immediately it was evident to all who bore witness that this pint sized, long haired savage from the suburbs of Medellin, Columbia, was capable of pushing out and out gnarly skateboarding to levels previously unimaginable, raising the bar previously set by the ‘Sorry’ era antics of Arto Saari, Geoff Rowley and Mark Appleyard. And raise the bar he has, time and again, as proven by the amount of internet breaking video parts he’s laid claim to and earning himself Thrasher’s coveted ‘Skater of the Year’ title for his efforts in 2012.

Since the start, David has been a firm part of the Globe footwear team, and The Eagle SG is the latest in a long line of shoes he’s proudly given the Gonzalez name to. Crafted with David’s impact-heavy antics in mind, the Eagle SG is a cupsole model with some hidden tech packed inside thanks to the ‘Shockbed’ sockliner.

This drop-in polyurethane insole reduces impact and cradles the foot, which is reinforced with a moulded arch-piece on the Shogun outsole. The cupsole build also provides support and flex throughout the shoe with a heel drag counter, ensuring the sole doesn’t easily wear out in high abrasion areas. Furthermore, a 10mm difference in density between the heel and forefoot areas of the insole ensures the wearer receives support and boardfeel exactly where it is needed.

Two main pieces of suede make up the shoe’s upper and are triple stitched together with the meeting point tactically shaped to avoid wear from griptape. Finally the Eagle SG’s toe box is fairly broad creating a relaxed fit that would be ideal for any skateboarder with a wider foot.
