Footprint – Skateboard Accessories Review – Jaws Insole

An overview of Footprint along with a 'Jaws Kingfoam' insole review

Footprint Insoles is the brainchild of Jason Guadalajara who founded the brand after allegedly selling his Axion Footwear collection in order to fund a flight to China and visit factories, learn about materials and develop insole technology inline with the specific needs of skateboarders.

Whilst in China, Jason nailed down the unique formula for a firm orthotic insole that takes on the exact shape of the wearer’s foot and supports the weight of the wearer’s skeleton, whilst still absorbing large amounts of the impact energy caused by skateboarding. From that, Footprint Insoles came into being, and in the six years since the company’s inception it has grown to become the leading insole manufacturer in the skate industry.

“These badboys are tried and tested by Jaws – what other proof do you need to know that they work?”

As you’d imagine, the brand has no shortage of card-carrying representatives, from the likes of Brandon Biebel, Joey Brezinski and Guy Mariano holding it down on the lower-impact end of the skateboarding spectrum, all the way up to world renowned leaping enthusiasts such as Dane Burman, Kevin Romar and Aaron ‘Jaws’ Homoki, the man whose signature product is at the heart of this very review.

As anyone with functioning eyes will be keen to inform you, Jaws has singlehandedly made a career out of pushing his not exactly well built frame to the limits and hucking himself down stairs and off roofs most people would probably crumble to simply look at, so you know if you come across an insole sporting his name, it better be up for the job. And up for the job it most certainly is…

This high profile insole sits at 7mm thick with an extra 3mm of cushioning on the all so important heel area, and is mooted to absorb up to 90% of the impact energy creating by Jaws own brand of lemming like skateboarding. This particular insole incorporates Footprint’s signature military grade nanotechnology foam, meaning that you’re not sacrificing board feel or control whilst fully protecting not only your feet, but your legs, knees and spine as well. The reinforced seams mean that they won’t split on you no matter how big the drop you’re faced with, and the insole is also fully breathable, so you don’t need to worry about your shoes stinking out your mum’s cubbyhole after those long mid-winter sessions.
