Emerica – Skateboard Shoe Review – Andrew Reynolds – Reynolds G6

An in depth look and review of the Emerica Andrew Reynolds 'Reynolds G6' skate shoe

Where to begin with Andrew Reynolds? His story is engrained in skateboarding culture and is that of a boss-like individual who has pushed boundaries and paved the way for what is possible today.

It’s apparent from Emerica’s last video, ‘MADE: Chapter Two’ – filmed and edited by Jon Miner in 2016 – that Reynolds is deservedly taking a step away from the stair jumping he’s tirelessly delivered over the years. There’s a sense of relief in seeing The Boss piece together flowing ledge lines, but the ability to still jump like a man half his age is still there, and the Emerica Reynolds G6 perfectly reflects this less impact focused direction which Reynolds’ own skateboarding has taken.

“The ‘Reynolds G6’ is a fine example of what years of constant work and refinement can achieve, and sees Reynolds give his tried, tested and hugely successful pro shoe formula a 2017 makeover”

The G6 takes the DNA of his past signature shoes to craft a model that is innovative but ultimately familiar. The toe piece of the shoe is resurrected from his first couple of Emerica models with two layers of suede two nestling a therma-welded toe-cap, creating a combination of three layers of resistance against the punishment of griptape.

A layer of G6 foam is injected into the shoe’s midsole, and – coupled with triangle tread – this allows for fantastic grip and the best of both impact protection and boardfeel. Further support and comfort is provided with a drop-in G6 insole and breathable lycra-spandex tongue. The shoe’s tongue piece is secured with Emerica’s ‘Internal Fit System’ tongue centring straps to keep the shoe close to the foot and comfortable at all times.

Other notable aesthetic details of the Reynolds G6 include the shape of the heel piece and ‘E’ pattern stitching on the side panel – both hallmarks of Reynolds’ shoes over years. Finally, The Boss’ position as a modern day legend is displayed through a tonal and SOTY-inspired Emerica insignia on the tongue.

This ‘Reynolds G6’ is a fine example of what years of constant work and refinement can achieve, and sees Reynolds give his tried, tested and hugely successful pro shoe formula a 2017 makeover. The shoe – whilst taking on a narrower silhouette than previous Reynolds approved models – comes loaded with Sole Tech’s forward thinking technology and will both hold its shape as the sessions pile up, and help keep your feet safe regardless of whether you’re piecing together tech lines or nollie-cabbing over handrails.
