Death – Skateboard Deck Review – Richie Jackson – Collector

An overview of Death Skateboards along with a 'Collector' pro deck review

Now in its 19th year of existence, Death Skateboards is one of the UKs longest serving skater-owned board brands. Having being established in Harlow in 1998 by life long skateboarding enthusiast and certified Death Squad member Nick ‘Zorlac’ Orrechio, Death Skateboards has been 100% skater owned and operated since day one, with a diverse team of talented misfits handpicked by Nick and long time pro Dan Cates.

Over its almost two decades of operation, Death has housed well known riders from all over the globe, with notables such as Scott Bourne, JR Neves, Andy Scott, Dean Palmer, Matt Pritchard and Scott ‘Horsey’ Walker all earning themselves pro boards at various points along the way. Today, Death currently produce pro boards for Ronny Calow, Adam Moss, Dave Allen, Dan Cates, Rob Smith, Mark Nicolson, Patrick Melcher, Benson, and the moustachioed gentleman at the centre of this very write up, Mr Richie Jackson.

The graphic features a very psychedelic interpretation of the currently unfinished Dreamers Gate sculpture, located in the small town of Collector, Australia. The predominantly black and red colour scheme and use of trippy lettering is inspired by the kaleidoscopic gig posters and album sleeves of the 1960s, and the music that was created alongside such visuals has quite clearly influenced almost everything Richie Jackson does, from the clothes he wears to his YouTube bursting unique take on modern street skating.

As for the shape, this hallucinatory ‘shred sled’ comes on a conventional 8.5” wide board with a fairly mellow kick, so regardless of whether you prefer skating your nearest mini ramp, getting tech on your local ledge or enjoy nothing more than straddling a crash barrier and navigating it down several flights of stairs, this Richie Jackson deck ticks all the required boxes.
