Converse – Skateboard Shoe Review – One Star CC Pro

An in depth look and review of the Converse 'One Star CC Pro' skate shoe

The Converse One Star CC Pro Skate shoe is a recent take on the ever-popular Converse One Star shoe. The One Star originally debuted in 1974 and received widespread attention during the 1990s as a favourite sneaker of Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain.

For years, the One Star was only available through Converse’s Japanese accounts until a version was released into the Converse Cons skate range in 2015.

“The shoe sits atop the same classic vulcanised sole found on the Converse’s Chuck Taylor All Star, which has remained a firm favourite of skateboarders for decades thanks to its incredible grip”

An accompanying ‘One Star World Tour’ took place to launch the shoe and during a trip to Japan on this very tour, Supreme and Fucking Awesome rider Sage Elsesser came across a pair of vintage One Star shoes.

The vintage Converse One Star has a slimmer build than the skate-specific version so, inspired by the stripped-back silhouette of the vintage model, (which echoed tennis footwear of the 1970s), Sage sought to recreate a similar shoe within the Converse Cons skate range. The Converse One Star CC was launched in February 2017 with two unique colourways for Sage himself and has gone on to be wildly popular.

The Converse One Star CC is more thinly padded than its classic counterpart, enabling a narrower fit and has a slightly pointier toe when compared to the original model.

The CC’s upper also features less panels than a standard One Star, with most of the areas where separate pieces of suede connect being bound with blind stitching, adding greater durability. The shoe sits atop the same classic vulcanised sole found on the Converse’s Chuck Taylor All Star, which has remained a firm favourite of skateboarders for decades thanks to its incredible grip, and is topped off with a Lunarlon insole for comfort and functional support.

Finally, adhering to Sage’s original wish for a simpler shoe, the One Star CC features minimal branding with the renowned Converse Star logo adorning the heel, air holes in the shape of a ‘C’ and Converse Cons detailing embossed into the tongue.
