Founded in 1990 and independently owned by skateboarding legend John Lucero, Huntington Beach based Black Label Skateboards is one of the oldest skater-owned brands in the industry.

Formerly a pro skater himself throughout the 1980s for companies such as Variflex, Madrid and Schmitt Stix, John Lucero is widely credited with inventing not only the slappy grind, (although he himself queried this in a recent Grosso ‘Loveletters’ episode), but also being one of the earliest pioneers of street skating by adapting skatepark tricks to the parking lots of Southern California.

Initially Lucero ran a company called Lucero Ltd started in 1988 using boards manufactured by Santa Cruz before establishing his own stand-alone brand two years later under the Black Label moniker. With a name allegedly inspired by the Canadian beer Carling Black Label, over the years Lucero’s company has played host to many young skaters who went on to become legends within the culture, including the likes of Jason Dill, Gino Iannucci and John Cardiel, to name but a few.

This ‘Some Girls’ team deck is a perfect example of Black Label’s diverse product range with a shape influenced by 1980’s pro models, with a much wider board and a tapered nose and tail perfectly suited for bowl and transition skating.

Although the length is fairly standard at 32” inches, the 8.75” width and longer 14.5” wheelbase gives this deck all the necessary space to allow you to control it at high speeds around larger transitions.

With graphics inspired by the classic 1978 Rolling Stones album of the same name, this ‘Some Girls’ team deck sits in perfect harmony with Black Label’s retro aesthetic, whilst offering maximum control to the modern tranny enthusiast.
