Birdhouse – Skateboard Deck Review – Bias

An overview of Birdhouse Skateboards along with a 'Bias' deck review

Having parted ways with their long time sponsor Powell-Peralta, Tony Hawk and freestyler Per Welinder established Birdhouse Skateboards 25 years ago, all the way back in 1992. Birdhouse Projects, as it was then known, focused more on street skating than vert or freestyle, and its early team riders included Willy Santos, Jeremy Klein, Matt Beach and a young Andrew Reynolds, before picking up Steve Berra, Heath Kirchart, Rick McCrank, Brian Sumner and various others prior to the release of their legendary 1998 video ‘The End’.

Thanks to its heavy presence in the Tony Hawk series of videogames, Birdhouse’s name is known and recognised by skaters and non-skaters literally the world over, and in 2017 the team includes such notables as the female slayer of transitions and recent pro Lizzie Armanto, next level drop enthusiast Aaron ‘Jaws’ Homoki and the bespectacled ramp lunatic Ben Raybourn, alongside Tony himself, who is still going strong at the ripe old age of 49.

“If you’re backing the Birdman and want the world to know that Birdhouse is your brand of choice, this ‘Bias’ team deck should have already caught your attention”

If you’re backing the Birdman and want the world to know that Birdhouse is your brand of choice, this ‘Bias’ team deck should have already caught your attention. With the Birdhouse team being known for their all terrain abilities, it should come as no surprise to learn that this respectfully sized 8.25” wide number is suited to near enough all styles of skateboarding. The kick is neither too shallow or too deep and the shape comes offered in the industry standard popsicle silhouette, meaning that regardless of whether you enjoy carving massive transitions, getting tech on your local ledges or leaping down sizable stairs and handrails, if 8.25” is your width of choice, this ‘Bias’ board is definitely worth investigating.
