Anti Hero – Skateboard Deck Review – Classic Eagle

An overview of Anti Hero Skateboards along with a 'Classic Eagle' deck review

If you’re reading this and you don’t already know what Antihero is then you’re blowing it frankly. Your best bet would be to Google ‘Fucktards’, (Antihero’s first full-length video – released in 1997) and work forwards from there. Team riders may have come and gone over the 20 years since the birth of the brand but the raw essence and aesthetic that remains to this day was established with that video.

Founded by legendary street pioneer Julien Stranger in San Francisco in 1995 through Deluxe Distribution, Antihero represents the raw underside of skateboarding; regardless of whatever trends of fashions are guiding the Zeitgeist, Antihero will always be the same. All types of skateboarding are embraced, boards are of varied width, (usually erring on the wider side) and the ethos is, put simply, ‘get in the fucking van’.

“All types of skateboarding are embraced, boards are of varied width, (usually erring on the wider side) and the ethos is, put simply, ‘get in the fucking van’.”

This Classic Eagle skateboard features the original and iconic eagle graphic created by long-time artistic contributor Todd Francis and comes in at a chunky 8.25” in width with a slightly longer than average wheelbase and a medium depth concave. Nose and tail-wise you’re looking at a pretty hefty rod here, with the nose slightly bigger than the tail but with plenty of foot space on both, perfect for digging dirt out of some over-vert ditch you’ve found after living in a car for 6 months, or equally as useful on the street.

Antihero’s team skate everything; literally everything, so their deck output reflects this – you’re not going to be finding any 7.5 toothpicks in their range, well, unless they start producing firewood to encourage even more skate camping missions that is. The bottom graphic is screened on a painted background with the eagle logo and shape code branded onto the topside.

Antihero have collaborated with various other brands over the years including the Crailtap family, celebrated in the Beauty and the Beast video series with Girl/Antihero collab hard and soft goods releases, along with a more recent apparel collaboration with infamous street wear brand Supreme.
