So Hot Right Now: Benny Fairfax

Most people that know Benny quite well would regard him as been very elusive at best, so I was pretty suprised when the opportunity arose about a week or so back to steal 5 minutes of his time for a quick question and answer session!

Read on, there’s also some video goodness tagged on at the end, too…

Where are you right now and what are you up to?

At the minute I’m at home in LA, drinking a cup of tea trying to decide where to go skate today.

What does an average day consist of for you?

My average day is: eating, skating, stretching, reading and then friends, girls and sometimes a couple beers in the evening.

You recently injured yourself quite badly, what happened?

I dislocated my ankle, broke my leg in 4 places and had 4 hour surgery with a metal plate and 10 or so screws.

How are you right now? Recovering well?

Right now its almost a year since my injury and im still not 100% but its almost fixed. Its wack but you’ve just gotta stay positive.

What did you get up to whilst you couldn’t skate? Do you pick up any new hobbies?

A lot of reading, swimming, golf, pool, darts and poker.

What projects have you got in the pipeline?

My main focus at the moment is the Stereo film, but we are also working on a video project at Adidas.

How’s your sponsor list looking right now? Can you clear up the whole eS/adidas situation?

My sponsers are Stereo, Adidas, Wesc, Redbull, Autobahn wheels, Roughneck hardware and PWBC.

I was skating for es for a long time and I was not really into the newer shoes they came out with and the people in charge weren’t really making it happen for me. I got an offer to be part of a proper team and I’d always been hyped on the shoes so that was it. And Busenitz is one of my favorites.

How’s the Stereo deal working out? Is it everything you’d hoped it would be?

Everything with Stereo is amazing, everyone on the team is a close friend. It’s the best I could have hoped for.

Who’s your regular crew to go skating with when you’re out in LA?

My regular crew in LA is Clint Peterson, Daniel Shimizu, Danny Supa, Nuge, Tony Silva, Dyson Ramones, Chris Pastras, Nick Trappaso, Paul Shier and Olly Todd when he’s out here.

How often do you find yourself back home? Have you any plans on coming back in the near future?

I don’t get a chance to come back as much as I’d like. Hopefully I’m coming back this Christmas, but who knows!

What do you miss most about home when you’re away?

Friends and family.

And lastly, how much do you miss hanging out with Kev Parrott?

Life isn’t the same!

Until the next Stereo video drops, check out Benny’s section from “In Motion”, the first Sidewalk video by Ben Powell and Neil Chester, released back in 2004…
